Dedicated to conserving the pure dingo, which colonized Australia over 5,000 years ago
Lyn and Peter Watson, proprietors of the Dingo Discovery Centre, are both dedicated canine enthusiasts, having graduated from a lifetime of loving and caring for many famous and not so famous champion pure bred dogs, stud cattle, and thoroughbred horses.
Lyn is an internationally renowned sight hound expert, qualified All Breeds dog judge, and judges around the world regularly. Peter, judges as well, his specialty being Gundogs. Peter was the first elected President of the Victorian Canine Association, and Lyn has also held the position of elected Vice President with that body, chairing the Judges training and examination Committee, and the Breeder Education Committee.
It was in their capacity as delegates that they were instrumental in the Australian National Kennel Council officially recognizing the dingo as Australia's native dog, and then brought about legal ownership of dingoes in their home state of Victoria, by presenting a proposal to the Minister responsible in 1991.
Finally it was possible under agreed conditions for a permit to be obtained to own a dingo, which previously had been prohibited in their home state.
Dingoes first came to rule at the Watson's in 1990. Since 1994 all dingoes bred here have been from DNA tested pure animals.
